Race Recap for NW Pro 4 Truck
Season Championship
Sept 25, 2010, Stateline Speedway
Article by Heather Hector
The NW Pro 4 Truck season thundered to a close Saturday night at Stateline Stadium Speedway. Mike Wiley, in what had earlier in the season been a neck and neck points race with #88 Jeff Hector, went into the night with the championship all but wrapped up for 2010. Hector's failure to begin the main at Port Angeles gave the #17 what would prove to be some much needed breathing room after an engine problem at Wenatchee dealt him a potentially crippling blow, leaving the driver to run the main event on only 3 of his 4 cylinders. Hector had problems of his own that night as well, caught up in a wreck with the 02 of Jim Milligan Jr. which ended his night and finished off the season for Milligan. Both Wiley and Hector spent some quality time in their shops, and had both trucks up and running for the final race.
The 88's night was nearly over before it began when he lost the transmission during the hot lap session, but thanks to yet another group effort by the drivers and a borrowed transmission, Hector was ready to go just in time for qualifying and ripped off a fast time of 15.091 for the night.
Adam Morris once again joined the group driving the #23, and took an early lead in the B dash, with Matt Maynard's 1 truck coming hard from the outside. Ken Milligan, driver of the #2, found himself with a free spinning steering wheel going into turn 3, which left him parked in the in field. Maynard took the lead from Morris on the white flag lap, and held onto it for the win, followed across by Morris, and the #85 truck driven by dirt track driver Leon Desautel. The 88 drew the black flag in the A dash after getting up close and personal with the #9 of Rob Tipps, costing him a brush up with the 58 truck driven by Ty Tipps, and ending with him in the wall. The race restarted with the 58 of Ty Tipps and the 17 of Mike Wiley left to duel it out. The 17 got his nose under the 58 on the white flag lap, and took the checkers with only a few feet to spare.
In the heat race, Matt Maynard found himself leading the pack yet again, followed by the 2 of Ken Milligan. Bobby Baker in the 78 challenged the 23 of Adam Morris for the 3rd position, bringing out the caution when Morris went for a spin and narrowly saved it from hitting the back stretch wall. Mike Wiley's 17 and the 88 of Jeff Hector both took to the outside of Milligan on the restart, in quick pursuit of Maynard's 1 truck. The 58 of Ty Tipps also made his move, coming up to join the group. Maynard felt the pressure and drove hard into turn 2, spinning and bringing out a second caution. Wiley took the green at the restart with Hector looking for the way around, but it would be the 17 of Mike Wiley that would take the win, followed by the 88 of Hector, the 58 of Ty Tipps, Baker in the 78, Milligan in the 2 truck, the 85 of Desautel, the 1 of Maynard, and Morris in the 23.
All nine trucks and drivers were ready to go for the main event, the #9 of Rob Tipps having completed his repairs in time to start the 30 lap race. Maynard started on the pole, with Baker's 78 bringing the heat at the green. Ty Tipps in the 58 made the pass on Morris in the 23 and took to the outside of Baker, the trucks making contact in turn 2. Both drivers managed to save their trucks from a spin out, however, the caution did come out to retrieve Baker's back bumper which had called it quits during the incident. Under green once more, Matt Maynard tried to hold onto to the lead, but it wouldn't last much longer. Jeff Hector in the 88, took position to the inside of Baker and set his sites on the 1 truck, followed by Mike Wiley's 17, with Baker's 78 and the 58 of Ty Tipps on the outside. Hector was a man on a mission, overtaking the 1 truck for the lead and never looking back. The race was for 2nd as the 17 tried to make the move on the 78, but Baker held him off. Jeff Hector ended his season on a high note, driving the #88 to a solid victory, with Bobby Baker taking 2nd in the 78 truck, and Mike Wiley taking the 3rd spot and the 2010 season championship in the #17. Matt Maynard's 1 truck came across the line in 4th, followed by Ty Tipps in the 58, Adam Morris in the 23, Leon Desautel in the 85, Ken Milligan in the 2 truck, and Rob Tipps in the 9.

Race Recap for
Wenatchee Valley Super Oval
September 11, 2010
Article by Heather Hector
The NW Pro 4 trucks hit the smooth, fast surface of the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval Saturday night, for their second to last race of 2010. Among the 10 truck and drivers who made up the field were Doug Wilkinson who rejoined the group bringing out his #53 truck, and Roger Maynard who made his truck debut for the year in his #1 truck, previously driven this season by son Matt. Points leader #17 Mike Wiley would once again set fast time for the night with a time of 14.808.
Pole sitter Ken Milligan in the 2 truck found himself with a little extra horse power for the B dash, with brother Jim Milligan Jr. in the 02 truck giving him a nice push from behind. Bobby Baker in the 78 truck fell back and pulled off, fighting a nagging clutch problem, leaving Matt Maynard driving Terry Warren's 58 truck to chase the brothers down. The 02 made a move alongside and under the 2 truck, and looked to overtake him, but Ken Milligan took the checkers for the trophy.
In the A dash, drivers Jeff Hector in the #88 and Mike Wiley in the #17 found themselves all dressed up with nowhere to go behind the front row of Rob Tipps in the #9 and Doug Wilkinson in the #53. The race was ran in a tight group all 4 laps with Rob Tipps first to the finish for the win.
The inside line were the movers in the B heat, led by Mike Tipps in the #85 truck, clearing the outside line and making a run. Jim Milligan would take over the lead after the contact between 2 truck and the 85 led to the leader going for a spin coming out of turn 1. Milligan held onto his lead for the win, with Bobby Baker in the #78 overtaking Ken Milligan's 2 in the race for 2nd. Roger Maynard in the #1 took the 4th spot, and Mike Tipps in the 85 finished in the 5th position.
For the A heat, the outside line would make a run with Rob Tipps driving the 9 truck into an early lead with Jeff Hector's 88 hot on his tail. Mike Wiley in the 17 came and took a look to the outside of Hector, but was forced to the pits with an engine problem. Hector passed Tipps for the lead on lap 5, and a few laps later took the checkers for the win. Tipps took 2nd followed by the 53 of Wilkinson who passed Matt Maynard in the 58 truck for 3rd.
Contact between the 2 truck of Ken Milligan, and the 78 of Bobby Baker on the front row gave Jim Milligan Jr. all the opening he needed to drive his 02 truck into the lead by the 2nd lap of the 30 lap main event. Rob Tipps in the 9 made a run for the 02 followed by Jeff Hector in the 88 and Doug Wilkinson in the 53. Milligan maintained his lead as the trio of racers behind him jockeyed for position. Hector's 88 emerged the victor and made the hard charge to catch the leader. It would not end well. The 02 suffered a catastrophic engine failure and spun to a stop coming out of turn 1. Hector, unable to avoid the disabled truck on the oiled down track, ended his night in the back corner of Jim Milligan Jr's 02 with the radiator rapped around the engine after a brutal hit which slammed him to a sudden stop. Both drivers were able to walk away, although more gingerly than before. The remaining field set up for the cone restart, with the #9 of Rob Tipps taking over the top spot flanked by Wilkinson in the 53 truck, who after having had a fast truck all night, had a problem with the driveline and failed to make a lap before ending his night in the pits as well. #78 Bobby Baker made the pass on Ken Milligan in the 2 truck for second, and both Tipps and Baker made a break from the rest of the pack. Matt Maynard in the 58 was the next to challenge the 2 for his spot and the race was for 3rd place as the drivers battled it out, with Maynard gaining the position. The #85 of Mike Tipps and the #1 of Roger Maynard also dueled for position behind the pair. Rob Tipps remained untouchable and took the checkered for the win, followed by Baker in the 78, Matt Maynard in the 58, Roger Maynard in the 1, Mike Tipps in the 85, (Ken Milligan in the 2 who pulled off a lap early), and Mike Wiley in the 17, who was able to repair his truck enough to run the main on 3 cylinders and maintain his points lead for the season.

Port Angeles Speedway :: August 28, 2010
Race Recap- article by Heather Hector
The NW Pro 4 Trucks were met with sunshine Saturday at Port Angeles Speedway, a welcome sight to the 9 drivers who made the tow for the weekend, and to the track officials and race fans who had suffered a string of rainouts in the weeks leading up to the event. With the season winding to a close, and a point spread of merely 4 points separating the first and second place trucks, Mike Wiley once again set the bar for the night setting a fast time of 16.441 in the #17 truck.
Rob Tipps would come out the victor of the night's trophy dash, jumping out for the lead coming off turn 4 the white flag lap and running away to take the checkers over Mike Tipps #85, followed by Jim Milligan Jr. in the #02, and Terry Warren in the #58.
The B heat would go to driver Jerry Buell of the #55 truck, who started on the pole and held off the #2 of Ken Milligan, and the #78 of Bobby Baker for the win, despite taking the back stretch a bit wide, kicking up some dirt and getting a little adrenaline going with 2 laps to go. #85 Mike Tipps completed the group fighting mechanical problems.
Jeff Hector drove the #88 truck to victory in the A heat, coming from the back and racing his way around the #9 of Rob Tipps. Mike Wiley also made his way around the #9, and took a look to Hector's outside, but the #88 had found his grove and took the checkers, followed by Wiley's #17, Tipps in the #9, and Terry Warren in the #58. Jim Milligan Jr. in the #02 had sat the race out with transmission problems.
The 30 lap main event would end for second place points sitter Jeff Hector before it even began, with his throttle cable snapping before the green flag was thrown. Hector was unable to repair the #88 before the race began, and would watch the race from the pits. Mike Wiley drove the #17 to the front of the pack to take the win, and further strengthen his points lead. Jerry Buell overcame a disappointing qualifying time to take 2nd place, followed by #58 Terry Warren, #9 Rob Tipps, #2 Ken Milligan, #78 Bobby Baker, and the #85 of Mike Tipps. Jim Milligan Jr. in the #02 truck would finish his night in the pits as well, transmission problems preventing him from finishing.

Bill Sauls Memorial Results
July 31st-Aug 1st, 2010
Article by Heather Hector
The Northwest Pro 4 Truck Series had the highest truck count so far for the 2010 season with 14 trucks turning out for the Bill Sauls Memorial Race held at Stateline Stadium Speedway this weekend. The 2 day truck show saw the return of the #55 of Jerry Buell, and also the #22 of Jason Majors, who would also set fast time with a 15.027. A week of hard work and late nights brought out the #18 truck driven by Mike Knutson, and the familiar faces of the Morris family were also in the pits, with Adam Morris behind the wheel for the return of the #23 truck.
Matt Maynard drove the #1 truck to victory for the B dash Saturday, racing from his starting spot on the pole. He held off Ken Milligan in the 2 truck who drove under the #18 capitalizing on Knutson’s push, to keep the pressure on Matt. Jim Milligan in the 02 raced it out with Mike Wiley’s 17 in the A dash, with Mike taking the lead and the win in an exciting finish, beating Milligan to the line on the last lap.
Rookie racer Adam Morris held his #23 truck in the lead after starting from the pole for the B heat with Ken Milligan hard on his tail. Morris showed his racing roots have taken a quick hold running a solid race, but lost his lead to Ken after brothers Terry Warren in the 58 truck, and Mike Tipps in the 85 truck had a difference of opinion in acceleration rate upon the exit of turn 2 resulting in the 85 going for a spin. The caution would not be thrown, however, as Tipps got his truck back on the track and attempted to get it up to speed, but not before the leaders would catch him. That was all the edge Milligan needed to get past the 23 and take the lead, the #1 truck of Maynard at his heels. The #18 of Knutson, #60 of Matt Hector, and the #85 of Tipps rounded out the pack. The #55 of Jerry Buell would call it an early night in the A heat, pulling of the track with handling problems. Jim Milligan Jr. in the 02 jumped to an early lead, with the #9 of Rob Tipps in hard pursuit. Bobby Baker in the #78 took the outside line to make a run, but the #88 of Jeff Hector saw his hole and dove 3 wide splitting the 9 and 78 trucks and taking position behind Milligan. Jason Majors in the #22 made his move to the outside and overtook Hector, catching Milligan’s 02 and just beating him to the finish line by a margin of inches. The #17 of Wiley, the #9 of Tipps, and the #78 of Baker completed the finishing order.
For the B dash on Sunday, Adam Morris in the #23 took the lead from the outside front row over Matt Hector in the #60 truck. Terry Warren in the #58 would take a looks high and low, but Morris would keep his top spot for the win. Bobby Baker in the #78 would hold off both the 02 of Jim Milligan and the 9 of Rob Tipps, racing to victory in the A dash.
The 40 lap Bill Sauls Memorial main event would start off with a caution coming out the first lap over an incident involving the #1 of Maynard, and the #85 of Mike Tipps, for a complete restart of the 14 trucks. The yellow would fly yet again only a few laps later, when the Baker’s #78 found its way into the side of the Warren’s #58 in turn 2, bringing both to a halt with Jeff Hector in the 88 getting stopped just short of impact, and Matt Hector in the 60 hitting pit road to avoid it as well. Under green again, Jerry Buell’s #55 would take the lead coming to the outside of #2 Ken Milligan, but the red #17 was coming and not to be denied. Wiley took the lead and made a run putting a little distance between himself and #22 Jason Majors, Hector’s 88, and the 02 of Jim Milligan who, along with the #55 of Buell, began to separate off from the rest of the pack. A spin by the #2 of Ken Milligan brought out the caution yet again just short of the half way mark. Once more under green, the #17 held his lead as Majors and Hector raced it out behind him. Hector would gain position on the 22 with a pass to the outside and set his sights on Wiley’s #17. Buell pulled his 55 into the pits, meanwhile Tipps in the 9 and Jim Milligan Jr. in the 02 battled it out for the 4th spot. Milligan dove his 02 under the 9 momentarily gaining the position, but giving it back when he got out of shape, holding 5th with a nice save. Holding his lead for the win, the checkers would fly for the #17 of Mike ‘Wiley Coyote’ who would once again claim the honor of the Bill Sauls trophy, having also won in 2009. Hector brought up 2nd in the 88, followed by the #22 of Majors, Rob Tipps in the #9, Jim Milligan Jr. in the 02, Adam Morris with a solid 6th place finish in the #23, Ken Milligan in the 2 truck, and the #85 of Mike Tipps completing the group of drivers who would finish their night on the track.

NW Pro 4 Truck Race Results for
Ephrata Raceway Park
June 26th 2010
Article by Heather Hector and reported by Katie Wiley
“Loose on, loose off.” It’s not a line from a 1980’s karate movie, but rather the condition several of the NW Pro 4 trucks found themselves in this Saturday at Ephrata Raceway Park. Driver Jim Milligan Jr. of the 02 truck was happy with his set up right out of the box, however. Milligan, who has won each of the truck races he’s driven at ERP, became the 4th different driver to set fast time for 2010. It would prove to be a competitive field, with the closest pack of trucks so far this season.
Ty Tipps driving the #9 truck, raced his way from the back row to take home the trophy in the B dash, and the long anticipated #58 truck of Terry Warren would live up to expectations, driven to victory in the A dash by Doug Wilkinson. Along with their trophy each driver received a cash bonus to sweeten the deal, sponsored by Ignition Christian Fellowship.
Bobby Baker drove the #78 to an early lead in the heat race, with #17 Mike Wiley bringing the pressure from the outside, and #58 Wilkinson looking to the inside. Baker lost throttle mid-race causing a chain reaction down the back stretch, with Wilkinson, the #02 of Milligan, and the #88 of Jeff Hector getting up close and personal. Wiley would take the lead and the win, followed by Wilkinson, Milligan, and Hector dragging the nose of his truck the final laps. Rick Shaver in the #85, Tipps in the #9, and Ken Milligan in the #2 rounded out the pack.
Line up shifted for the 30 lap main event, after Ken Milligan opted to start his #2 truck in the back with handling issues which had led to contact with the back stretch wall during the dash. Again, Wilkinson would make his way to the front with the #58 truck, having to hold off both the #17 and the #88 of Wiley and Hector, who raced hard for the number 2 spot and to challenge the 58 for the lead. The 85 of Rick Shaver would end his night early, pulling off the track midway through the race. The first of 2 cautions came out with a spin from the #9 of Tipps coming out of turn 2, bringing on the cone restart. Wilkinson held his position on the line, with Hector and Jim Milligan following him low, and Wiley and Baker trying the outside lane. The 58 held his ground as both Hector and Wiley worked to set him up for the pass. Things got tight as Hector nosed his 88 to the inside of Wilkinson, and Milligan in the 02 tried to get underneath the 88, sending him for a spin coming out of turn 4 and bringing out the 2nd caution and cone restart, with 2 laps to go. In an exciting green, white, checkered finish, Doug Wilkinson sealed the deal driving the #58 truck to victory, followed by Wiley, Hector, Baker, Jim Milligan, Tipps, and Ken Milligan.

Stateline Stadium Speedway Results
June 5, 2010
Article by Heather Hector
Stateline Idaho was the place to be Saturday night to see the NW Pro 4 trucks in action. Eight trucks and drivers made up the field for the evening, with Matt Maynard of Everett, WA bringing along his dad’s #1 Thunder truck as a stand in for his #18 ride. Mike Wiley driving the #17 truck set the bar for the night with a fast time of 15.002, and became the 3rd different driver in as many races to set fast time.
Rob Tipps out of Spokane, WA drove the #9 to victory in the trophy dash, after racing hard along the outside of Jim Milligan Jr. in his #02 truck. Jeff Hector in the #88 truck also took to the outside for the heat race win, followed by Milligan’s #02, Bobby Baker in the #78, and Wiley’s #17 who crossed the finish line 3-wide in their battle for 2nd place.
The 25 lap main event began with the #02 taking an early lead from his outside front row starting position over pole sitter #85 Mike Tipps. Hector’s #88 came hard on his heels and took over the top spot, with the #17 soon taking up 2nd behind him . Rob Tipps and Bobby Baker also made the pass on Milligan, with Tipps taking a look to see if he had anything for the leaders. Maynard in the #1 truck left the track with mechanical issues after being caught from behind by the lead pack, who then put Mike Tipps in the #85 and Ken Milligan in the #2 a lap down. Mike Wiley kept the pressure coming, nosing his #17 up to Hector’s door, but for the 2nd race in a row, Jeff Hector drove his #88 to victory and took home the hardware.

Wenatchee Valley Super Oval, May 22, 2010

This week the Northwest Pro 4 Trucks raced on the east side of the mountains at the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval. Nine trucks turned out for the night’s racing, all nine going on to start the main event. The competition began with the B dash, and “Redemption” was the word Auburn’s Ken Milligan used to describe the win in his #2 truck, after having been plagued by a frustrating run of mechanical failures. Ephrata’s Jeff Hector racing the #88, would both set a fast time of 14.676, and take home the hardware for the A dash, hoping it was an indication of things to come later that evening.
The 10 lap heat race held some moments of close quarter racing, as #02 Jim Milligan, and #78 Bobby Baker battled for the same piece of racing real estate. Mike Wiley in the #17, and Hector’s #88 also charged through the pack from the back, with Hector taking the win and setting himself in position for a clean sweep of the evening.
The 30 lap main event ended almost as soon as it began for racer Rob Tipps in the #9 truck. Coming off turn 2 in the first lap, the set screw holding his steering wheel shaft to the steering box sheared off, leaving him along for a short, quick ride into the back stretch wall. The remaining 8 trucks would take the green for the 2nd time, again with Milligan and Baker jostling for position. Baker took the lead spot, with the pressure coming from Mike Wiley’s #17. Hector passed Milligan’s #02 truck for 3rd, and quickly gained ground on the #78 and #17. The #88 overtook both trucks for the lead, with Wiley again applying the pressure after passing Baker for 2nd. The trucks raced through lapped traffic, leaving only Hector, Wiley, Baker and Jim Milligan on the lead lap. With the red #17 on his heels, Hector was not to be denied, and took the checkered flag for the win, breaking a longstanding streak of 2nd place finishes jokingly dubbed ‘the bridesmaid curse’. His quote for the night? “Finally!”

Evergreen Speedway - March 15, 2010
Article by Heather Hector & photos by Kimberley Wiley
The Northwest Pro 4 Truck series held their first official points race of 2010 Saturday night at Evergreen Speedway, taking place on their 3/8 mile track. The event saw the return of the white #4 truck and driver Pete Brady who had sat out the 2009 season, yet would soon show that he was just as fast as ever, setting fast time with a 19.263. The #43 truck owned by Allen Dixon also returned, with both a sharp new paint scheme and new driver as the #9 truck driven by Rob Tipps. Joining in on the night’s racing were local drivers Aaron Greene in the #17x, who would take the B trophy dash, and Matt Greene in the #7. JR Kelley in the #3, Jim Milligan Jr. in the #02 truck, and Doug Wilkinson in the #53 would all call it an early evening with mechanical issues that would prevent them from qualifying.
Both the #85 of Mike Tipps, and the #9 of Rob Tipps would also end their nights early, neither driver able to start the heat race or the main event. Brady in his #4 would take the heat, coming from a full invert to take the win.
Jeff Hector in his blue lightning #88 started the main event on the pole, with Bobby Baker in the #78 on the outside. Hector, along with 2009 points champion Mike ‘Wiley Coyote’ in the #17, and Pete Brady in the #4, who both began directly behind in row 2, would round out the trio that would battle it out for the top spot for the 20 lap main event. Hector gave nothing up, as both Wiley and Brady tried for position to the outside of the 88, until Brady, after trying the driver both on the high and low side, overtook Hector after several laps with a run to the outside for the lead, win, and early points lead.
